Sr. Shafty

Our senior youth group is one of the largest and most active in NFTY/PAR (National Federation of Temple Youth in the Pennsylvania Area Region). Several times a year our Sr. SHAFTY kids attend specially themed weekend retreats organized by NFTY/PAR regional officers.
Featuring a wide mix of social programs, Sr. SHAFTY offers teens a chance to learn  about their Jewish identity by developing important relationships with each other.

Members of our senior youth group also write and lead a special Shabbat Service, as well as our popular “Blue Jeans” service.  For this, participants from 7th grade and up dress casually and enjoy Camp Harlam/NFTY-PAR style songs and reflection.  Following this unique service is a relaxing oneg in the youth lounge.
For those interested in taking a more active SHAFTY role, we encourage kids to run for a youth board position,  President to webmaster, historian to newsletter editor, there's a place for anyone who wants to get involved.

Included among the many exciting SHAFTY events are mitzvah projects, ritual and social programs, organized meetings, and special fundraising.  Plus kids have enjoyed featured trips to amusement parks, a mystery bus ride, Ocean City, a day in NYC, and midnight Cosmic Bowling/Shul-In.  We donate tzedakah to organizations such as:  cancer research, Magen David Adom, Darfur, and Heifer International.  Additionally, we are directly involved in our own community by visiting geriatric centers, helping the needy, recycling, and Mazon. Not only do we encourage participation in charitable events, but we give careful thought to where our fundraising efforts are directed -- which means, members help raise the money and determine where it goes.  It’s truly a rewarding experience!
