Yad LakShish - Lifeline for the Old
Yad LaKashish (Lifeline for the Old) is a non-profit organization that offers the needy elderly and disabled of Jerusalem the opportunity to remain an integral part of society.
Founded in 1962, Yad LaKashish provides work opportunities, support services, and intergenerational programs to hundreds of elderly and disabled in Jerusalem, most of whom are new immigrants from the Former Soviet Union, Ethiopia, and South America.
The Leo Baeck Education Center was founded in 1938 as a small kindergarten class for German Jewish children. Ohel Avraham Progressive Synagogue was established in 1978 on the Leo Baeck campus. In 1991, the Alan Offman Sports Center of UIA Federations Canada was dedicated. In 1994, the Leo Baeck Community Center and the Leo Baeck Sports Center became a member of Hevrat HaMatnasim, the Israel Association for Community Centers. In 1997, the Leo Baeck Education Center was refurbished in order to accommodate itself to special needs populations. In 1998, the Leo Baeck Education Center took full administrative and educational control of an already existing 800-student junior high school in close proximity to the Leo Baeck campus, making Leo Baeck into a six-year school with more than 1,600 students. The center also established the Lokey International Academy of Je wish studies. The Leo Baeck Senior High School is one of the top academic high schools in Israel.
