HOW WILL YOU CELEBRATE THIS YEAR This year celebrate in a very special way. THE FIRST CHANUKAH CANDLE SHOULD BE LIT Monday December 22, 2008 Each night of Chanukah should be devoted to the theme of “rededication” to the principles of our Jewish faith, to the survival of the Jewish people, to the teachings of Torah. Chanukah, in its contemporary meaning, serves as the vehicle or symbol of rededication.
CELEBRATE CHANUKAH AT HOME Light your Chanukah menorah in an open place. It is a public sign of the principles to which we ascribe. Invite friends, family, and neighbors to share with you. Chanukah is meant to be festive. It should be shared with loved onesand friends. Latkes and Sufganiot (donuts) are appropriate foods. Play games - dreidle and pin the shammas on the chanukiah. Make up new games. Use the themes of Chanukah and the words and symbols of ideas: word games, anagrams, etc. Sing songs! Join in singing your favorite songs of Chanukah such as those included in this pamphlet. Write new lyrics to old songs, and enjoy!

Rock of Ages let our song, praise Your saving power. You amid the raging foes were our sheltering tower. Furious they assailed us, but your arm availed us. And Your word broke their sword, when our own strength failed us. And Your word broke their sword when our own strength failed us.
I HAVE A LITTLE DREIDLE I have a little dreidle. I made it out of clay, and when it’s dry and ready, then dreidle I shall play. O dreidle, dreidle, dreidle I made it out of clay. O dreidle, dreidle, dreidle, now dreidle I shall play. It has a lovely body with leg so short and thin. And when it is all tired it drops and then I win. My dreidle’s always playful, it loves to dance and spin. A happy game of dreidle, come play now let’s begin.
O CHANUKAH O Chanukah O Chanukah come light the Menorah. Let’s have a party we’ll all dance the hora. Gather ‘round the table we’ll give you a treat. S’vivonim to play with, I’vivot to eat. And while we are playing, the candles are burning low. One for each night they shed a sweet light to remind us of days long ago. One for each night they shed a sweet light to remind us of days long ago.
