*We at Shir Ami encourage all our congregants to light Shabbat candles on Friday evening. Some will observe the tradition of lighting candles exactly 18 minutes before sunset, others as close to sunset as possible, still others whenever they sit down to Shabbat dinner. Whatever your family’s decision on timing, we urge you to light Shabbat candles every Friday evening.
